Sweet Life In Winter Wonderland

On our way to Mount Rushmore, we had a few more stops. For example in Le Mars – where life is sweet. Le Mars is recognized as the ‘Ice Cream Capital of the World’, and why is that? Because more Ice cream is made by a single company in one location than anywhere else in the world! They make over 120 million gallons of ice cream every year. We couldn’t resist trying the ice cream. So we had 1 giant scoop of Strawberry Cheesecake and another giant scoop of Brownie Fudge Fantasy. We could definitely agree that life in Le Mars is indeed very sweet.

In South Dakota, state of the Great Faces and Great Places, we couldn’t leave without visiting Mount Rushmore. Those faces looked very good up close and that was a big contrast with the Grazy Horse. This sculpture wasn’t finished yet ;). After Mount Rushmore we went to Jewel Cave. The second largest Cave in the world with amazing stones.

In last than four weeks we have seen three different seasons Mother Nature can give us.
Hot summer days in Florida, beautiful fall landscapes on our way to the north of the states and now a white winter wonderland in Yellowstone Park.
We had two days to explore this white wonderland.
From east to north and all the way back to the south part of the park, we spotted a few wildlife animals and saw some amazing nature wonders.

Now we have enough of the cold weather, we are going to heat up in Vegas within a day!

From Philadelphia To Chicago

We are heading more and more to the west.  Our next destinations are Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone National Park. But first an update about the last couple days.

After all the history in Washington there was another city to tell us more about the beginning of the States: Philadelphia. We also couldn’t leave Philly without trying the delicious Philly Cheese steak, a sandwich with meat and cheese.
After Philadelphia we went to the Amish Village. During the tour we learned a lot about how the Amish people live. It was very interesting.

Chocolate is a very nice treat, and Mr. Hersey build his own town called Hersey after making a very big fortune in selling Hersey chocolate. In the Hersey factory, we had a tour and we both made our own chocolate candy bar.

We visited a few cities around Lake Michigan and there is now better view of the lake then at Mount Baldy. A very big Dune near Michigan city.
Chicago is also a city bordering the lake, is well known as the Windy City. A few hotspots are the Navy Pier, Lincoln Park Zoo, The Cloud Gate aka The Bean and Eli’s Cheesecake World. We had three days to visit them all. At the Cheesecake CafĂ© we tried many very delicious cheesecake pies, like the Pumpkin, Oreo and Chocolate Truffle cheesecake pie.

The Americans are all prepared for Halloween, just a couple days left before we all can say: trick or treat! Even the animals in the Zoo were all in the mood. We can’t wait to celebrate Halloween here, but we are not so sure yet where ‘here’ will be. We will soon update you more.

Washington DC & NYC

After becoming one with nature, it was time to socialize with the people in the city again.
We started in Washington DC, the capital city of the USA.
We visited a lot of monuments, all over the city.
And of course we could not leave Washington DC, without visiting the White house. And before we knew it, we saw Michelle Obama passing by.
There was another surprise waiting for us.
We got free tickets to visit the backyards of the White house.
Here we had a really close look at the house. It was surprisingly small and very white.
It was a day full of unexpected moments.

In Washington DC we learned a lot about the history of the United States. There is a well known sentence: E Pluribus Unum; out of many, one.

And the Big Apple, our next stop is for sure one out of many.
It was our last minute decision to come to the city that never sleeps.
There are so many things to do and we had just two days ahead of us.
The days were filled with all the things we wanted to see and do.
We took the ferry to Staten Island, to see the Statue Of Liberty. Walking from financial disrict to Soho and the way back to Fifth Avenue. We had bubble tea in China town and before we knew it we decided to have a new haircut there as well.

In Brooklyn we had a good sushi lunch. Grand central station and Rockafeller Center were also on our “to do list”.
When the sun was under, we walked over the Manhattan Bridge, to see the skyline of New York by night. And took the subway to The Times Square for a really good New York Style cheesecake.
Now we just have a few hours left and then it is already time to leave this amazing city.

Leaves are falling as the fall is calling

After the cities on the gulf we had a few more stopovers in Florida.
We went to the fleamarket and shell factory in Fort Myers.
Looking for shark tooth at Capersen Beach.
Visted a funfair in Kissimmee.
In Orlando we had a city walk at the Universal studios.
Gainesville and Jacksonville were the last cities in Florida and now we are heading up north.
First Georgia, state of the peaches. In Savannah we explored the old city town and visited the city market.

On our way to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, we can see that fall has come to town.
We left sunshine Florida and could welcome mister Rain immediately.
The roads are long and with all the trees and forest around us, we have a great view from our window car.

Sunshine Florida; Miami And Cities On The Gulf

After a 3 hours flight we finally arrived in Miami.
The first day in the USA we spend at Miami South beach. Walking on the long beaches, spotting people on Ocean Drive and exploring the Art Deco area.

We went downtown the next day and visited a few small areas, like Little Havana. You definitely could see the Cuban and Latin style there.
And of course we could not leave Miami without spending a few hours in the shopping malls.

We picked up our car after spending three days in Miami and we drove further into Florida, the sunshine state.

Visiting Florida without visiting the Everglades is a no no. So our first roadtrip stop was at the Everglades to take a 1-hour airboat ride. We went further into the Everglades and spotted a few alligators on the way.

After our first stop we had a few more stops in the cities on the gulf of Mexico. Again gorgeous beaches and as usual the warm weather.
Now we are driving up to the north part of Florida.

Speak to you soon.
